Madurai: The Madras High Court directed a petitioner doctor to follow the bond condition executed by him which stated that the doctor has to serve in the state for two years or pay 50 Lakhs as fixed by the government. The court was hearing a petition filed by Sreejith V Ravi from Kerala.
The petitioner has secured admission in Tirunelveli Medical College to pursue DM Neurology course under all India quota. While joining the course he had executed the bond. After the completion of his course in September 2020 he was not in a position to comply with the bond condition. The petitioner gave an explanation to the Dean of the college for not being able to comply with the bond condition which was not accepted by the Dean. The Dean refused to accept the explanation and asked the petitioner to comply with the term resulting in the petitioner challenging the order in Madurai bench of the High Court.
During the course of the case the state produced a copy of an order issued by director of public health and preventive medicine appointing the petitioner to work as Assistant Surgeon at Nagapattinam. Justice G R Swaminathan while quashing the order of the director of public health and preventive medicine asked the petitioner to either serve for the bond period of 2 years or pay Rs.50 Lakhs.
