Accused Allegedly Assaulted Woman After She Demanded Divorce from His Legal Wife

Ludhiana:
In a deeply disturbing incident, a Ludhiana-based doctor has been booked for allegedly raping, torturing, and physically assaulting his long-term live-in partner after she urged him to divorce his wife and legally marry her. The case has sent shockwaves through the city’s medical community and residents alike.

15-Year Live-In Relationship Ends in Abuse

The 38-year-old complainant revealed she had been in a live-in relationship with the accused for 15 years, during which the couple had two children — a seven-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter. She alleged that the accused, who is a practicing doctor, had promised to marry her legally but kept postponing the commitment.

Shocking Revelation of Legal Marriage

The situation escalated seven months ago when the woman learned that the accused had been legally married to another woman, also a doctor, for the past 25 years. Although the couple was reportedly living separately due to personal issues, the accused refused to divorce his wife, triggering tensions in the live-in relationship.

Violent Assault on July 26

According to the FIR, the incident took place on July 26 around 7:30 PM, when the accused, allegedly intoxicated and holding a beer bottle, entered the bedroom where the victim was resting. Their children were in another room. When the woman confronted him again about the marriage, he became violent, physically assaulted her, and sexually abused her in a brutal manner.

The complaint further details a horrifying claim that the accused attacked her private parts with an empty beer bottle, leaving her seriously injured. After the assault, the woman managed to flee and spent the night at a nearby gurudwara for safety.

Police Action and Legal Charges

The next day, she reported the incident to the police. An FIR has been lodged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Section 64(1): Rape
  • Section 74: Assault with intent to outrage modesty
  • Section 76: Use of criminal force to disrobe
  • Section 69: Sexual intercourse by deceitful means
  • Section 351: Criminal intimidation

Sub-inspector Amarjit Singh, SHO of Division No. 8 police station, confirmed the filing of the case and said that a manhunt is underway to arrest the accused.

Calls for Accountability in the Medical Profession

This case comes in the wake of several other high-profile cases involving doctors accused of sexual offences, raising concerns about ethical conduct and accountability in the medical profession. Public outrage is growing, with calls for swift legal action and medical license suspension pending investigation.
