Ludhiana : The Civil Hospital in Ludhiana is set to inaugurate a newly constructed waiting room for patients visiting its pharmacy. The facility, expected to be completed next month, aims to address the long-standing issue of patient discomfort due to lack of proper seating and shade while waiting for medicines.

Features of the New Facility

  • Capacity: The waiting room can accommodate up to 500 visitors, with seating available for 300.
  • Location: It is being built on the site of the former cycle stand near the hospital’s main entrance.
  • Investment: The project is funded with ₹25 lakh under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.
  • Amenities: The space will include seating arrangements, electrical fittings, signage, and a relocated pharmacy dispensing window for enhanced convenience.

Initiative by MP Sanjeev Arora

The initiative was proposed by Sanjeev Arora, MP (Rajya Sabha), after observing the challenges faced by patients during his hospital visits.

  • “I noticed long queues without any shelter, causing extreme discomfort to patients. This waiting room will provide a comfortable and organized space for visitors,” said Arora.

Benefits and Additional Changes

  • Reduced Congestion: Dr. Harpreet Singh, Senior Medical Officer, highlighted that the new facility would alleviate congestion at the pharmacy, which often serves a high volume of patients.
  • Improved Parking: Efforts are underway to address parking concerns. A tender has been issued for a new cycle stand, and a parking area is planned behind the Chest and TB Centre to avoid visitors parking in grassy areas.

The project is set to enhance the overall experience for patients and visitors, providing much-needed relief and convenience at one of Ludhiana’s busiest healthcare facilities.
