A tragic road accident in Lucknow has left one person dead and six others seriously injured after a speeding SUV, allegedly driven by a doctor, rammed into a scooter and then ploughed into people sleeping on a footpath early Sunday morning.
Accident Near Burlington Crossing Turns Fatal
The incident occurred near Burlington Crossing in the early hours, when the SUV reportedly hit a scooter carrying three individuals from behind. The impact proved fatal for the rider, identified as 25-year-old Sushil alias Sonu, a resident of Alambagh.
Following the collision, the vehicle went out of control and veered onto the roadside footpath, running over four labourers who were asleep at the time.
Victims Shifted to Hospital, Condition Critical
All injured victims were rushed to Balrampur Hospital for immediate medical care. Due to the severity of injuries, some were later referred to the KGMU Trauma Centre, where their condition remains critical.
The injured scooter passengers have been identified as Suraj and Hemant, while the affected labourers include Noman, Adil, Ejaz, and Abdullah. Doctors confirmed that two of the labourers are stable, while others are undergoing intensive treatment.
SUV Driven by Medical Intern, Arrest Made
According to police officials, the SUV was being driven by a doctor who is currently an intern at a reputed medical institute in the city. The accused has been arrested, and the vehicle—bearing a Chhattisgarh registration number—has been seized.
Complaint Filed, Investigation Underway
The complaint was lodged at the Kaiserbagh Police Station by the victims’ employer, Jagdish Chandra Mehra. He stated that the three youths were riding near Ratan Square around 3:00 AM when the speeding SUV struck them.
Station House Officer Anjani Mishra confirmed the arrest and said that authorities are probing all angles, including rash driving and negligence.
Probe Focuses on Speed and Negligence
Police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding may have played a role, but officials are also examining other factors such as driver condition and road circumstances.
