Justice Devan Ramachandran on Media’s Role
Highlighting the importance of health journalism, Kerala High Court judge Justice Devan Ramachandran on Saturday said the media plays a crucial role in connecting the public with the medical community by simplifying complex medical information.
Inaugural Address at Health Journalism Summit
He was speaking at the National Health Journalism Summit Medi Media, inaugurated at the IMA House, Kochi. The event was jointly organised by Aster Medcity, Ernakulam Press Club, and the IMA Cochin chapter, according to a release by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ).
Lessons from the Pandemic
Referring to COVID-19, Justice Ramachandran said the value of health journalism grew significantly during the crisis. “Kerala witnessed exemplary media work during the pandemic. It was a time when we understood what responsible journalism truly means,” he noted, while also urging accountability in the age of internet information overload.
Building Media-Medical-Legal Dialogue
Dr Nalanda Jayadev, CEO of Aster Medcity, said the aim of the summit was to encourage dialogue between media, medical professionals, and the legal fraternity to strengthen public trust and understanding of healthcare.
Nationwide Participation
Around 30 journalists from across India are taking part in the two-day summit, which includes discussions on key healthcare issues and promoting responsible reporting.
Activities and Closing Session
On Sunday, delegates will join a memory walk ‘Healthy Steps’ at Marine Drive, starting 7 a.m. from Abdul Kalam Marg. The valedictory function will be held later in the day at 2.30 p.m., to be inaugurated by Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan.
