New Delhi: A woman has accused Kasturba Hospital, a municipal corporation-run facility in Old Delhi, of inserting a copper-T birth control device during her Caesarean delivery without her knowledge or consent.
Sinky Rajouria, a first-time mother, told TOI that she delivered a baby girl through C-section on July 28 and was discharged in the first week of August. Recently, she began experiencing pain and discovered a thread hanging from her body, which she later realised was from a copper-T device. “We were shocked since I hadn’t asked for it, nor was I informed about its insertion,” she said.
Her husband alleged that when they approached the hospital, doctors at the OPD initially told them the tool to remove the device was unavailable and asked them to return the next day. On their second visit, they were informed the doctor was in the operation theatre, and later advised to seek treatment at a private hospital.
He further claimed that when he tried to raise the matter with the hospital’s medical superintendent, she dismissed him without asking for a formal complaint. The couple has now decided to have the device removed at a private facility.
Expressing fear over negligence, the woman said she no longer feels safe returning to the hospital for treatment.
