Pending Applications for 31 Centres Rejected; MoUs to Be Cancelled

In a significant policy shift, the Karnataka government has decided to discontinue permissions for Jan Aushadi Kendras operating within government hospital premises. Additionally, 31 pending applications for setting up new Jan Aushadi Kendras in hospitals will also be rejected, according to an official order made public on Saturday.
Centres Outside Hospitals Unaffected
The order dated May 14 clarified that this move does not impact Jan Aushadi Kendras located outside government hospital campuses. However, the Health Department has been instructed to initiate the cancellation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed with Jan Aushadi Kendras already operating inside hospital premises.
Hospitals Instructed to Procure Generic Medicines via BPPI
The order further directed government hospitals to procure generic medicines from the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI) under special rates fixed by the Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd (KSMSCL). These medicines are to be provided free of cost to patients, marking a shift toward in-house pharmaceutical distribution.
