Kolkata : The Sealdah court in Kolkata will deliver its judgement on January 18 in the rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident, which occurred in August last year, sparked widespread protests and demands for justice.
CBI Seeks Death Penalty
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), entrusted with the case by the Calcutta High Court after the initial probe by Kolkata Police, has sought the death penalty for the accused, Sanjay Roy. Roy was charged with the heinous crime after the victim’s body was discovered in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9. He was arrested the following day.
Trial Concludes
The in-camera trial, which began on November 12, concluded on Thursday. The additional district and sessions judge announced that the verdict will be pronounced on January 18.
Family’s Plea
The victim’s parents believe more individuals were involved in the crime and have called for their arrest and prosecution. They hope the investigation will continue to bring all culprits to justice.
