Puducherry police have booked a doctor from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in connection with an alleged job fraud case involving ₹25 lakh. The case names the doctor, his driver, and four others in an FIR for allegedly cheating a woman by promising employment for her son at the premier medical institute.

The FIR was registered following directions from a local court after the complainant claimed that no action had been taken on her earlier complaint. The case revolves around an alleged promise to secure a front office position at JIPMER in exchange for a large sum of money.

According to reports, the complainant is a 49-year-old woman who resides in the JIPMER quarters. She was allegedly introduced to the doctor’s driver, who claimed that the doctor could arrange a job for her son at the institute.

The driver allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh to secure the appointment. Between 2020 and 2022, the woman reportedly paid ₹15 lakh in two instalments to the driver, believing that the job process was underway.

Later, she was directly introduced to the doctor. The remaining ₹10 lakh was allegedly demanded in 2023 to finalise the placement. Trusting the assurances given to her, she paid the remaining amount as well.

However, despite making the full payment of ₹25 lakh, no job was provided to her son. When she sought either the promised employment or a refund of the money, she allegedly received threats of serious consequences.

The woman initially lodged a complaint at the D Nagar police station on March 28, 2023. When no action followed, she approached the court, which subsequently directed the police to register a formal case and initiate an investigation.

In a separate incident reported earlier, an MBBS doctor from Haryana was arrested along with eight others for allegedly masterminding a massive online investment scam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The fraud reportedly involved transactions worth ₹209 crore, with officials estimating the total amount could exceed ₹400 crore after full verification.
