Family Devastated as Sole Breadwinner Dies in Ranchi-Delhi Flight Crash
Ranchi witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy after a government doctor lost his life in a fatal air ambulance crash in Jharkhand. Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta, posted at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi, was among the seven people killed when a Beechcraft C90 aircraft went down near Simaria in Chatra district.
The ill-fated Beechcraft C90 air ambulance, operated by Redbird Airways Pvt Ltd, was en route from Ranchi to Delhi with a patient on board when it crashed on Monday evening. The aircraft went down in the Bariatu Panchayat area of Simaria, a densely forested region in Chatra district.
All seven people on board, including Dr Gupta, two pilots, medical staff, and others, died in the crash. Officials confirmed that the bodies were later recovered and sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Dr Vikas Kumar Gupta was serving at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi and was part of the medical team accompanying the patient to Delhi. Colleagues described him as a dedicated and sincere doctor committed to patient care.
His father, Bajrangi Prasad, is inconsolable after the loss. Speaking to media, he said he had sold all his land and invested his entire life’s savings to educate his son and make him a doctor so that he could serve society.
Recounting the final conversation, the grieving father said he was told that the flight would land in Delhi at 7:11 pm. However, around 8:00 pm, he received information that the air ambulance had crashed. Later, he was informed that the accident occurred in the forests of Chatra’s Simaria area.
Dr Gupta is survived by his wife and a seven-year-old son. He was known to be a meritorious student who had completed his MBBS from Cuttack, Odisha. With the family’s sole earning member gone, his loved ones now face an uncertain future amid overwhelming grief.
