Dharashiv | A disturbing incident of violence has emerged from the Government Medical College (GMC) in Dharashiv, where an on-duty MBBS intern doctor was threatened and attacked with a sickle by an intoxicated individual. The entire incident was captured on CCTV and is now circulating widely on social media.
In the footage, the intern, dressed in a white shirt, is seen walking with another person across the campus when a man suddenly charges at him, brandishing a sickle and holding it close to his neck. The attacker continues to threaten the doctor for nearly a minute before the video ends.
According to a doctor who shared the video on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the attack occurred on the night of August 2. It is alleged that a group of intoxicated individuals forcefully entered the hospital premises and assaulted the intern. The exact motive behind the attack remains unknown.
A post shared on ‘X’ identified the victim as intern doctor Dr. Himanshu Vyas, stating that he was brutally attacked while on duty at Civil Hospital, Dharashiv. The user condemned the act and emphasized that such violence against healthcare professionals must not be tolerated.
This incident follows another reported case of violence against doctors at Tripura’s Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital, where two emergency ward doctors were allegedly assaulted by a patient’s relatives. One of the doctors, Dr. Litan Das, sustained multiple injuries but is currently out of danger.
The medical fraternity has expressed concern over the growing trend of violence against healthcare workers and is urging authorities to take stringent action.
