Doda: In a shocking incident, the body of a five-to-six-month-old infant girl was discovered inside a bathroom at the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, police confirmed on Sunday.

Discovery During Routine Checks

According to hospital officials, the body was found on September 28 during routine sanitation and security checks. Medical Superintendent Dr Tanveer Ahmed said the staff immediately alerted the police after the discovery.

Police Register Case

Following the report, police registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body.

Forensic and Medico-Legal Examination

The infant’s body was sent for post-mortem examination, and DNA samples have been forwarded to a forensic laboratory for further analysis. Officials said the results will help establish identity and circumstances surrounding the death.

Crime Scene Inspected

The Investigating Officer, accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team and a crime photographer, visited the spot and conducted legal as well as scientific formalities. The case is being closely monitored by local police authorities.

CCTV Footage Under Review

Hospital security measures, including CCTV footage, are now being reviewed to trace any suspicious movement. Officials said further details will be shared once the DNA confirmation and forensic reports are received.

Police Assure Strict Action

Police officials assured that an in-depth probe is underway and that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law once investigations are complete. “Further legal action is being pursued,” a police statement noted.

Similar Incident Reported Earlier

This incident comes amid rising concerns about infant care at government hospitals. Recently, a 45-day-old baby allegedly died due to medical negligence at Kandiyaperi Government Peripheral Hospital in Tamil Nadu, where the family claimed the infant was denied timely treatment.
