Indore: Police have booked a man posing as a doctor after a 45-year-old patient died due to alleged improper treatment at an unauthorised clinic in the city’s Hawa Bangla area.
Patient’s Death Sparks Inquiry
The case surfaced after family members of Shyam Palwar, who died on May 22, 2024, lodged a complaint at a public hearing forum. His wife, Aarti Palwar, and mother Kusum Palwar alleged that he died due to unsafe treatment administered by the accused, who was running a facility under the name Patel Medical and Clinic.
Angry relatives staged a protest at the clinic, prompting authorities to launch an investigation.
Probe Reveals Fake Credentials
An inquiry led by Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani confirmed that the accused had neither a recognised medical degree nor registration with any medical council. Despite this, he had been illegally prescribing medicines and offering treatments, falsely claiming to practice modern medicine.
The committee held the fake doctor directly responsible for Palwar’s death, citing unsafe and unauthorised medical practices.
FIR Registered
On the basis of the findings, Dr. Ajay Gupta, Zonal Medical Officer of Malharganj, filed a police complaint. An FIR was registered under provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Medical Establishments Act and the Medical Council Act for practising medicine without a valid license.
Authorities Warn of Strict Action
CMHO Dr. Hasani described such practices as a “grave risk to public health” and assured that strict legal action would be taken. The administration also appealed to residents to report any unqualified practitioners in their locality.
