Ayushman Bharat, Affordable Medicines and Medical Education Reforms Drive Healthcare Progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the significant transformation of India’s healthcare sector over the past 12 years, stating that the government has focused on making quality healthcare more affordable, accessible, and inclusive for millions of citizens across the country.

According to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Prime Minister emphasized that India takes pride in being home to the world’s largest healthcare programme, Ayushman Bharat, which provides quality medical care to the country’s most vulnerable populations.

Sharing his views in a series of posts on X, PM Modi said that the government’s efforts have been aimed at ensuring that healthcare services reach every section of society while reducing the financial burden associated with treatment.

Ayushman Bharat Strengthening Healthcare Access

Highlighting the impact of Ayushman Bharat, the Prime Minister noted that the flagship health insurance scheme has emerged as one of the largest healthcare initiatives globally, enabling economically weaker sections to access quality medical treatment without facing significant out-of-pocket expenses.

He stated that the programme reflects India’s commitment to universal healthcare and social welfare by extending medical coverage to millions of beneficiaries nationwide.

Jan Aushadhi Scheme Making Medicines Affordable

PM Modi also underscored the role of the PM Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana in improving access to affordable medicines. The scheme has helped patients obtain quality generic medicines at significantly lower prices, reducing healthcare costs for families across the country.

The Prime Minister further pointed out that government interventions have made critical medical devices such as cardiac stents and knee implants more affordable, benefiting a large number of patients requiring life-saving and quality-of-life-enhancing procedures.

Medical Education Expansion Improves Accessibility

Discussing developments in medical education, PM Modi said that increased availability of medical institutions and additional seats has made medical education more accessible to aspiring healthcare professionals.

He noted that the expansion of educational infrastructure has strengthened the country’s healthcare workforce and will contribute to meeting future healthcare demands.

Commitment to Building a Healthy India

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to healthcare reforms, the Prime Minister said that India will continue building upon the progress achieved so far to create a healthier nation.

“We will keep building on this ground covered so far in order to build a healthy India,” he stated while sharing a glimpse of the transformation witnessed in the healthcare sector over the last decade.

PGI Chandigarh Set to Get Major Healthcare Facilities

In a related development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also set to virtually inaugurate three major healthcare facilities at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The upcoming facilities include the Advanced Neuroscience Centre, the Mother and Child Care Centre, and a new Critical Care Block.

The new infrastructure is expected to enhance patient care services and strengthen the institute’s capacity to deliver specialized medical treatment.
