In Mansa Government hospital death case, Punjab State Human Rights Commission recommends FIR against doctor

Mansa : An FIR was recommended by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) against the doctor for the alleged negligence leading to the death of the women and her newborn baby at the Mansa Government hospital. PSHRC has also directed the health department to initiate a separate probe against the doctor. The PSHRC appointed committed of the civil surgeon and three doctors found lapses in duty by the negligent doctor.

It is being alleged that the doctor has given instructions to his staff on a video call for the delivery of the child as he was not present at the hospital. This led to the death of the women and the child as per the report submitted by the civil surgeon. In its report submitted to the PSHRC the committee found that there was lapses on the part of the doctor leading to rupture uterus as evident from the postmortem report of the patient.

The order passed by the commission comprising chairperson Justice Sant Prakash observed that the report of the committee concludes that the doctor was negligent and hence the commission recommends to register a case against the doctor for causing death by rash and negligent act/omission. The commission also directed the health department to take appropriate action against the doctor for his negligence.
