Yadgir: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Karnataka Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) have strongly condemned the alleged assault on a government doctor by Sub-Inspector Manjegouda, attached to Yadgir Town Police Station. The associations have demanded the immediate suspension of the police officer and strict action against him.

At a press conference, Dr. Chandrakanth Pujari, district president of IMA, and Dr. M.S. Patil, district president of KGMOA, alleged that Dr. Arun Kumar Patil, an anaesthetist at the Primary Health Centre in Doranahalli, was assaulted by the sub-inspector while on his way to discharge his duties.

Incident Details

According to reports, Dr. Arun was traveling to Doranahalli in his car when the incident occurred near Subhash Circle on Chittapur Road. At the time, a procession organized by various groups was passing through the area.

“The doctor had stopped his car after a police constable signaled him to allow the procession to pass. However, the sub-inspector rushed towards the vehicle and physically assaulted him,” alleged the IMA and KGMOA leaders.

Following the attack, the associations demanded that an FIR be registered against PSI Manjegouda and that he be suspended immediately.

Police Response

After the incident, a delegation of doctors met Superintendent of Police (SP) Pruthvik Shankar and called for action against the accused officer.

“SP Shankar has instructed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Arun Kumar to submit a report within three days,” said Dr. Pujari and Dr. Patil.

When contacted, SP Shankar assured that necessary action would be taken based on the findings of the report.
