Shiwani Clinic sealed during joint raid by health officials and police; medicines seized and destroyed on-site
Zirakpur – In a major crackdown on quackery, an illegal medical clinic operating under the name Shiwani Clinic in the Kishanpura area of Dhakoli was sealed on Wednesday after it was found to be run by an unqualified individual posing as a doctor. The joint raid was conducted by the local health department and police, following public complaints about unauthorized medical activity.
The raid was carried out around 11:30 a.m. under the supervision of Dr Rakesh Kumar (Medical Officer), Drug Inspector Dr JJ Singh, and officers from the local police station. During the operation, the alleged practitioner, who introduced himself as Dr Ranjan, was caught red-handed while treating a female patient.
“He could not produce any valid medical degree or registration certificate when asked,” said Dr Rakesh Kumar, speaking to Hindustan Times. “We had received repeated complaints regarding illegal medical activity at this location and acted swiftly on the civil surgeon’s directive.”
The accused tried to justify his practice by claiming that registered doctors routinely visited the clinic. However, he failed to provide any documentation or contact information to support his claim.
Authorities also found a sizable stock of medicines at the site, none of which were supported by proper purchase records or prescriptions. The unaccounted medicines were immediately seized and destroyed, and the premises were sealed.
Strict Warning Issued by Health Authorities
The health department has issued a public advisory, warning against unlicensed medical practices and urging citizens to report suspicious clinics or individuals offering healthcare services without proper qualifications.
A further investigation into the matter is ongoing. Officials have hinted at potential legal action against the accused for violating the Clinical Establishments Act and other relevant provisions.
This incident comes amid a nationwide clampdown on fake doctors and unregistered clinics, which have been flagged as a serious threat to public health.
