Hyderabad– Hyderabad Metropolitan Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has launched a scathing critique of construction violations at Dr. Shankar’s Hospital near RTC Crossroads, revealing that the facility has illegally built six floors in violation of approved plans.
The surprise inspection was prompted by public complaints submitted via the Prajavani platform and has uncovered a host of serious regulatory breaches.
Construction Far Exceeds Sanctioned Limits
According to Commissioner Ranganath, the hospital had received official clearance to construct only four floors, but went on to build a cellar and six floors, significantly overshooting the permitted height. During the inspection, the Commissioner directly questioned Dr. Shankar, the hospital’s proprietor, about the gross violation of building norms.
“How can such a massive deviation happen without anyone noticing?” Ranganath asked, expressing alarm over the regulatory lapse.
Safety Risks Due to Narrow Access Roads
Ranganath also raised red flags over the building’s location, which is flanked by narrow roads—just 10 and 15 feet wide. He pointed out that erecting a tall structure in such a confined space could pose serious safety hazards, especially during emergencies such as fires or medical evacuations.
Hospital Operating Without Occupancy Certificate
In a revelation that further deepens the controversy, the hospital is reportedly functioning without an Occupancy Certificate (OC)—a basic prerequisite for any commercial or healthcare establishment. Despite this, the hospital had already secured a license to operate, prompting Ranganath to demand explanations from the concerned authorities.
“Issuing a license without an OC is a serious procedural failure. How was this overlooked?” he questioned.
GHMC Officials Ordered to Submit Report
Ranganath has directed GHMC Secunderabad Zonal Chief Planner Srinivas to submit a comprehensive report detailing the violations and the role of officials in overlooking them. He assured that strict action would be taken against both the hospital management and any complicit officials.
Inspection Conducted with Senior Authorities
The inspection team included high-ranking officers such as Hyderabad Fire Department Additional Director Papayya, DFO Yagna Narayana, and other HYDRAA officials, underlining the seriousness of the matter.
