Koppal, Karnataka: A 26-year-old doctor from Hyderabad, identified as Ananya, went missing while swimming in the Tungabhadra River near the Tungabhadra dam in Koppal district on Wednesday.

Incident Details

Ananya, who worked at a private hospital in Hyderabad, was on a trip with three friends when the tragic incident occurred. According to police reports:

  • She jumped into the river from a rock cliff for fun but was swept away by strong currents.
  • A video recorded before the jump shows her preparing to leap while someone in the background counts down.
  • She surfaced briefly but disappeared moments later.

Search Operation Underway

Her friends immediately sought help, and a search operation was launched by the fire and rescue department, police, and local swimmers.

Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram L. Arasiddi stated:

“The search is ongoing, but we cannot confirm her survival until we recover the body. They were tourists from Hyderabad who had come to enjoy the river, but unfortunately, she was swept away by the strong current.”

The case is being handled by the Gangavathi Rural Police Station, near the Tungabhadra dam. Authorities continue their efforts to locate Ananya.
