
Doctor Booked Under MP Religious Freedom Act, 2021
Jabalpur : A homeopathy doctor in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to pressure a minor girl into religious conversion. The accused, identified as Khalid Khan, was operating a clinic in the Tilwara Ghat area.
Minor Targeted During Treatment
According to the police, the girl was receiving treatment at the clinic when the doctor allegedly began influencing her psychologically to convert. He also reportedly obtained her phone number and tried to persuade her over calls, offering inducements to support the conversion.
Family Alerts Police, Case Registered
The girl’s family, upon learning of the situation, reported the matter to the police. Based on their complaint, a case was registered under various provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021, which penalizes forced or fraudulent religious conversions.
Strict Punishment Under the Law
Under the act, individuals found guilty of forced religious conversion can face imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh. The legislation also addresses mass conversions and provides strict legal consequences.
The case is currently under investigation.
