No Cause for Concern, Assures Union Health Minister

New Delhi: Union Health Minister JP Nadda assured the public on Monday that there is no need for alarm regarding the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) situation in India. Addressing recent concerns, Nadda clarified that HMPV is not a new virus and that no surge in common respiratory pathogens has been observed in the country.

Monitoring Developments in Neighboring Countries

In a video message, Nadda stated that the Ministry of Health, along with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), is vigilantly monitoring the situation in China and other neighboring countries. He also highlighted that the World Health Organization (WHO) is evaluating the situation and will share its findings with India soon.

“The health systems and surveillance networks of the country remain alert to ensure prompt responses to any emerging health challenges,” Nadda said. “There is no reason to worry; we are closely monitoring the situation.”

Delhi Hospitals Directed to Stay Fully Equipped

State Health Minister Issues Precautionary Measures

In light of the HMPV concerns, the Delhi government has directed all hospitals to remain fully prepared for a potential surge in respiratory illnesses. State Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj instructed the Health and Family Welfare Department to monitor the situation closely and stay in constant communication with the Union Health Ministry for timely updates.

Daily Inspections Ordered

The directive mandates the health secretary to conduct daily inspections of three state government hospitals. These inspections will focus on critical parameters, such as the availability of medicines from the essential drug list, ICU bed readiness, and the operational status of PSA oxygen plants and radiological equipment.

By ensuring hospitals are equipped and coordinated, Delhi aims to proactively address any potential health challenges posed by respiratory illnesses.
