State Government Plans Major Healthcare Reforms, Integrated Mother and Child Hospital at IGMC
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed the Health Department to prepare measures aimed at ensuring a “zero waiting period” for diagnostic services in medical colleges across the state.
The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting with senior health officials held on Monday evening, where the Chief Minister stressed the importance of strengthening healthcare delivery systems and improving patient care through faster diagnostic facilities.
Integrated Mother and Child Hospital Proposed at IGMC
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also asked officials to explore the feasibility of establishing an integrated “Mother and Child Hospital” at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC).
To take the proposal forward, the government has constituted a committee headed by Secretary Ashish Singhmar to identify a suitable location within the IGMC campus for the new facility.
The proposed hospital aims to provide comprehensive healthcare services for mothers and children under one roof, improving accessibility and convenience for patients.
Focus on Advanced Diagnostic Facilities and Staffing
The Himachal Pradesh government is focusing on equipping healthcare institutions with advanced and state-of-the-art diagnostic machines while ensuring adequate staffing to improve the quality of treatment.
Officials highlighted that timely and accurate diagnosis remains the backbone of effective medical care, making the upgradation of diagnostic services a top priority for the state government.
To tackle staff shortages in hospitals and healthcare institutions, the government is also accelerating recruitment to fill vacant posts in medical, paramedical and technical categories.
Health and Education Remain Top Priorities for Himachal Government
The Chief Minister said health and education continue to remain the top priorities of the state government, with substantial investments being made to bring systemic reforms in both sectors.
He added that there is no shortage of funds for these critical sectors and that the government is committed to ensuring accessible and quality healthcare services for people across Himachal Pradesh.
