Nationwide Initiative Aims to Identify and Treat Non-Communicable Diseases
New Delhi: In an effort to curb the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in India, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has launched a mass screening drive to detect and diagnose individuals aged 30 years and above for prevalent NCDs.
Nationwide Screening Under NP-NCD
Announcing the initiative, the ministry stated that the campaign will be conducted across Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and other healthcare facilities under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD).
Focus on Diabetes, Hypertension, and Common Cancers
The month-long campaign (February–March) aims for 100% screening of individuals above 30 years for major NCDs, including Diabetes, Hypertension, and three common cancers—Oral, Breast, and Cervical.
Door-to-Door Outreach and Real-Time Monitoring
As part of the campaign, the government will conduct door-to-door outreach, with state governments ensuring the availability of essential medical supplies such as BP monitors, glucometers, and necessary medications at all healthcare centers. Data on screenings, treatments, and follow-ups will be updated daily on the NP-NCD Portal for effective monitoring.
