Victim was unconscious and on life support during assault; police arrest accused after scanning 800+ CCTV footages
GURUGRAM: In a deeply disturbing case of sexual assault, a 25-year-old hospital technician has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 27-year-old air hostess while she was unconscious and on ventilator support at a private hospital in Gurugram’s Sadar area.
The accused, identified as Deepak, had been employed in the hospital’s ICU department for the past five months. According to police, he was arrested on April 18 following an intensive investigation that involved examining footage from more than 800 CCTV cameras and questioning hospital staff.
The survivor, who had come to Gurugram for airline training, had been transferred to the hospital on April 6 after her condition deteriorated due to a near-drowning incident in a hotel swimming pool. While unconscious and critically ill, she reported sensing inappropriate physical contact from a hospital staff member but was unable to resist or cry for help due to her condition.
In her statement, she also alleged that two nurses were present during the incident but failed to intervene.
A formal complaint was filed on April 14, prompting police to launch a large-scale investigation. “Taking the matter seriously, eight dedicated teams were formed to identify the accused. After careful review of surveillance footage and staff records, the suspect was traced and apprehended,” said a senior police officer.
The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law pertaining to sexual assault. The accused is scheduled to be produced in court on April 19.
The incident has sparked outrage, with calls for stricter hospital security protocols and accountability from private healthcare facilities. An internal inquiry by the hospital management is also expected.
