Show-Cause Notice Issued; Administrative Leave Granted Pending Inquiry

A district hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna has come under scrutiny after a video allegedly showing a doctor on emergency duty in an intoxicated state surfaced on social media. The footage, which quickly went viral, has triggered public concern and prompted administrative action by hospital authorities.

The incident reportedly took place during a night emergency shift when an 80-year-old asthma patient was brought to the hospital for urgent treatment. According to the patient’s family, the doctor on duty appeared disoriented while examining the elderly man and recommended hospital admission.

As per media reports, after procuring the prescribed medicines, the family returned to the emergency ward to check on the patient’s admission details. However, they alleged that the duty doctor was unable to recall where the patient had been shifted, causing confusion and anxiety among the attendants.

In the video that later circulated online, the doctor is seen struggling to respond to basic questions. At one point, he allegedly misidentified another individual as the patient. The visuals sparked outrage and raised questions about patient safety and professional conduct during emergency services.

Reacting to the episode, the patient expressed shock and concern, stating that the doctor appeared unaware of the medicines being administered. He also alleged that no proper prescription had been issued during the consultation.

Following the viral video, hospital authorities intervened and asked the doctor to leave the premises immediately. Officials clarified that no medical examination was conducted at the time to confirm whether the doctor was under the influence of alcohol. Subsequently, the doctor was placed on seven days of administrative leave and served with a show-cause notice seeking a written explanation.

Responding to the allegations, the doctor denied being intoxicated and maintained that he was fully conscious and aware of the patient’s treatment. However, during questioning, he reportedly misidentified another person as the patient, further intensifying concerns.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Rajkumar Rishishwar acknowledged that the doctor’s condition appeared abnormal at the time. He stated that a medical officer had been sent to advise the doctor to return home. Authorities have said that the matter will be reviewed upon receiving the doctor’s explanation, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
