Panaji : The South Goa District Hospital has initiated a departmental inquiry following a mother’s allegation that her newborn baby was swapped at the facility after her delivery on April 8.
The woman, who underwent a C-section, claimed she had given birth to a baby boy, while the hospital records indicate the delivery of a girl child.
Speaking to The Times of India, Dr Rajendra Borkar, the hospital’s medical superintendent, stated, “As per all available hospital records, there is no exchange of babies. However, a detailed departmental inquiry will be conducted.”
As of Friday evening, the mother had not filed a police complaint, though the allegation has drawn attention to hospital protocols surrounding post-delivery infant handling and record-keeping.
Hospital authorities say they are treating the matter seriously and will ensure transparency in the investigation.
