Doctor Arrested Following Sexual Assault Complaint
Panaji: In a disturbing incident, the Goa Police arrested a 28-year-old doctor for allegedly inappropriately touching a Spanish woman inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Old Goa. The arrest was made after the patient’s sister filed a formal complaint, leading to swift police action.
Details of the Alleged Incident
The incident reportedly occurred on August 31, 2025, when the Spanish patient was admitted to the ICU of a private medical facility. According to a complaint cited by The Times of India (TOI), while the patient was immobile and in a vulnerable condition, the accused doctor lifted her hospital gown and touched her “private area” under the pretext of conducting a neurological sensitivity test.
Police revealed that the doctor allegedly touched the survivor at multiple locations, violating medical ethics and criminal law.
Investigation and Arrest
North Goa SP Rahul Gupta confirmed that after the offence, the accused left Goa. A dedicated police team tracked him to Solapur, where he was arrested in connection with the alleged rape case. An FIR has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including rape and outraging the modesty of a woman.
The police stated, “Further investigation is ongoing to gather additional evidence and ensure justice.”
Hospital Response and Suspension of Doctor
Healthway Hospitals, Old Goa, issued an official statement acknowledging the complaint.
“A woman patient admitted to Healthway Hospitals complained of sexual assault by the doctor while undergoing treatment,” the hospital said.
Following the complaint, the accused doctor was suspended from active duties pending further police inquiry.
