Negligence Led to Six-Hour Delay in Treatment
Jhansi: Five more doctors were suspended on Tuesday following the death of 18-year-old Vinay Ahirwar, who suffered critical injuries in an accident but was not admitted or treated on time at Jhansi Medical College. Additionally, four sister in-charges were removed from emergency duty. This action was taken by Principal Dr. Mayank Singh based on the findings of a four-member investigative team.
Earlier, EMO Dr. R.S. Rana had been suspended in connection with the case.
Disciplinary Action Taken Against Medical Staff
The investigation team, after recording statements from doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, found evidence of negligence. As a result:
- Doctors Suspended: Dr. Vidyasagar, Dr. Vidushi, Dr. Harshvardhan, Dr. Juhi, and Dr. Divyansh were suspended, with a 10-day salary deduction.
- Emergency Staff Penalized: Sister in-charge Shashi Masih and Shiva T, along with two others, were removed from emergency duty, with a one-day salary deduction for negligence.
Dr. Sachin Mahur, CMS, stated that disciplinary action was taken after the allegations were confirmed.
Patient Left Untreated for Six Hours Before Death
On February 20, Vinay Ahirwar, a resident of Rajgarh in Premnagar, was severely injured in a truck accident near Raksa Toll Plaza. His family brought him to the emergency ward at 12:46 PM, but doctors only provided an emergency prescription without preparing an admission file.
Despite having two X-ray machines in the emergency unit, the on-duty surgeon and orthopedic doctor sent him to the OPD, delaying his treatment. The first X-ray was done at 2:55 PM, and all 18 X-rays were completed by 3:15 PM. The family then proceeded for a CT scan at 3:40 PM, returning to the emergency ward at 4:45 PM.
By then, EMO Dr. R.S. Rana’s shift had ended, and Dr. Ravi Sharma had taken over. Realizing the worsening condition of the patient, Dr. Sharma immediately prepared an admission file, but it was too late, and Vinay succumbed to his injuries.
The case has sparked outrage, prompting the medical college to take strict action against those responsible.
