Emergency Ward Gutted in Blaze, Patients Shifted to Safety as Firefighters Control Fire

A fire broke out in the emergency ward of Rainbow Children’s Hospital in Currency Nagar, Vijayawada, on Wednesday morning, allegedly due to a short circuit. Thanks to the prompt action of hospital staff and firefighters, no casualties or injuries were reported despite significant damage to the ward.

According to hospital sources, staff members noticed smoke and flames emerging from an air-conditioner vent inside the emergency ward. Acting immediately, hospital personnel initiated emergency evacuation procedures and safely shifted children and other patients to another ward before the fire could spread.

Following the alert, two fire tenders rushed to the hospital and successfully brought the blaze under control. Firefighters also took preventive measures to stop the fire from spreading to other sections of the healthcare facility. The incident triggered concern among residents as the hospital is situated in the densely populated residential locality of Currency Nagar.

Hospital authorities stated that the fire detection auto-sensor system functioned effectively and issued an early warning, enabling staff to respond without delay. The timely alert played a crucial role in preventing a major tragedy.

Although no injuries were reported, the emergency ward suffered extensive damage. Several medical devices, equipment, and materials stored inside the ward were destroyed in the fire, with reports indicating that the ward was completely gutted.

The Patamata Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire, though officials are expected to confirm the exact cause after a detailed assessment.

Authorities are also evaluating the extent of damage to the hospital’s infrastructure and medical equipment. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
