MBBS Doctor Fools Patients and Hospital Using Stolen Identity and Fake Degrees

Faridabad: A shocking case of medical fraud has come to light in Faridabad, where an MBBS doctor impersonated a cardiologist and performed over 50 heart-related procedures at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital over the span of eight months.

The accused, Dr. Pankaj Mohan Sharma, used the identity and registration number of Dr. Pankaj Mohan, a legitimate cardiologist, to get hired and treat patients without proper qualifications.

Whistleblower Lawyer Exposes the Fraud

The scam surfaced after lawyer and social activist Sanjay Gupta filed a police complaint on April 11 at NIT Faridabad police station. Gupta alleged that Sharma used forged documents to claim degrees like DNB (Cardiology) and even MD, none of which he actually held.

Police investigation revealed that Sharma misused NMC registration number 2456, originally issued to Dr. Pankaj Mohan, while his own MBBS registration number was 28482.

How He Got In and When It Fell Apart

Dr. Sharma was recruited in July 2024 by Mediterina Hospital, which operates the cardiac care centre inside Badshah Khan Hospital under a PPP model. Though he applied as a general physician, he falsely claimed to be a cardiologist, complete with fake stamps and degrees.

Things started to unravel in February 2025, when hospital authorities asked Sharma to present his cardiology degrees. He suddenly disappeared, raising suspicions. Patients, confused by his absence, approached the real Dr. Pankaj Mohan, who denied ever working at the heart centre. This confirmed the identity theft.

Social Media Clues and Legal Actions

Further digging revealed that Sharma also maintained a fake Facebook profile under the name ‘Kshitiz Mohan’ and claimed to be the director of a film production company, adding more layers to his deception.

The real Dr. Mohan has filed a complaint with the Indian Medical Association and served legal notice to Sharma for impersonation and misuse of his credentials.

Hospital Finally Responds

Dr. M. Pratap Kumar, CMD of Mediterina Hospital, confirmed that Sharma has been terminated. “He applied through formal HR channels. We had doubts about his cardiology qualifications and took action as soon as those doubts were confirmed,” Kumar stated.

Authorities are now investigating how a fraudulent doctor was able to operate unchecked for so long — putting dozens of lives at serious risk.
