Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Dr. G. Raghunandan, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon, as the in-charge Director of Medical Education (DME), signalling a significant leadership change in the state’s medical education sector.
Professional Background
Dr. Raghunandan, hailing from Gutti village in Kurnool district, currently serves as Additional Director of Medical Education at the DME office. He has extensive experience across government teaching hospitals in Kadapa, Nellore, Tirupati, Kurnool, Anantapur, and Vijayawada, holding key administrative and clinical roles.
Role and Responsibilities
In his new capacity, Dr. Raghunandan will oversee medical colleges, streamline healthcare training programs, and ensure quality standards across government medical institutions. His leadership is expected to guide the state’s ongoing reforms and expansion in medical education.

Earlier, several Additional Directors of Medical Education (ADMEs) were reassigned as principals of Government Medical Colleges and superintendents of teaching hospitals, as part of the state’s initiative to streamline administration under the DME’s supervision.
