Doctors found inebriated on duty in dry Maharashtra district, sparking outrage

Wardha : In a disturbing incident in Wardha district, Maharashtra, two government doctors were discovered in an inebriated state while examining a child at Pulgaon rural hospital.  The doctors were reported to be “reeking of alcohol,” and authorities recovered a bottle containing approximately 180ml of leftover liquor from their car. The child’s family and acquaintances were outraged upon discovering the intoxicated state of the doctors. Subsequently, the Wardha police control room was alerted, and a crowd gathered at the hospital by the time the authorities arrived. An offense was registered against the doctors under various sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, and their blood samples were collected for testing at the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Nagpur. Social worker Ankush Koche, who was approached by the aggrieved family, revealed that Pulgaon Rural Hospital often operates without doctors. In this particular instance, when the child was brought to the hospital with a fever, the nurse declined to administer medication due to the absence of doctors.  Dr. Sachin Tadas, the district civil surgeon, intervened and sent the doctors to the hospital. However, to everyone’s shock, it was discovered that the doctors were under the influence of alcohol, further exacerbated by the fact that this transpired in Wardha, a dry district. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability, particularly given the gravity of the situation and the violation of prohibition laws in the district. The state health department has been informed, and an inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the full extent of the incident.
