UDF alleges viral comedy show content insulted medical fraternity, violated dignity of body donors, and promoted unethical conduct; legal action may follow if demands are not met.

The controversy surrounding viral remarks about cadavers made during a stand-up comedy show has escalated into a legal battle, with the United Doctors Front (UDF) issuing a legal notice to comedian Pranit More, a content creator, and the event organiser. The doctors’ body has demanded the immediate removal of the controversial videos from social media platforms and a public, unconditional apology, alleging that the content insulted the medical fraternity, undermined the dignity of deceased body donors, and promoted ethically objectionable conduct.

The legal notice comes amid mounting outrage within the medical community and follows the registration of an FIR, intervention by multiple authorities, and widespread condemnation from doctors and medical students across the country.

Viral Cadaver Remarks Trigger Backlash

The controversy began during a crowd interaction segment at one of Pranit More’s comedy shows, where the comedian reportedly asked audience members whether doctors remain serious while handling cadavers during anatomy postings and post-mortem examinations.

A final-year MBBS student from KEM Hospital allegedly responded with remarks about male cadavers that many members of the medical fraternity considered inappropriate and disrespectful. The video quickly went viral, drawing criticism from doctors, medical students, and social media users.

Medical professionals argued that cadavers are treated with utmost respect in medical colleges as they are donated bodies that play a crucial role in teaching anatomy. They warned that such comments could damage public trust in body donation programmes and discourage future donations.

As criticism intensified, the medical student reportedly issued a public apology, acknowledging the sensitivity of the subject and expressing regret over the remarks.

UDF Issues Legal Notice

The United Doctors Front, through Advocate Muskan Singh Bankura, issued the legal notice on June 12, 2026, demanding that all videos related to the controversy be permanently removed from social media platforms. The organisation also called for an unconditional public apology from the comedian and event organisers.

According to the notice, the controversy relates to two separate but connected incidents from “The Ashleel Show,” a live crowdwork comedy performance hosted by Pranit More and organised by The Laugh Store at DLF Cyberhub in Gurugram, Haryana.

The notice alleges that the comedian encouraged and later broadcast remarks concerning male cadavers, which the doctors’ body described as a serious violation of the dignity of deceased individuals and a breach of medical ethics.

Concerns Over Body Donation and Medical Ethics

UDF argued that body donation remains insufficiently understood and underutilised in India. The organisation stated that portraying donated cadavers in a sexualised or degrading manner could discourage families from donating bodies for medical education and scientific research.

The notice further asserted that medical professionals are bound by professional conduct and ethics regulations laid down by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and other governing bodies. Public discussion of deceased patients or donated bodies in a disrespectful manner, even in a comedic setting, was described as a potential breach of professional standards.

Legal Provisions Cited in Notice

The doctors’ body cited multiple provisions of law that it believes may apply to the matter, including sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), provisions under the Information Technology Act, and professional conduct regulations governing medical practitioners.

The notice also referenced concerns regarding another viral segment from the same show involving remarks related to consent and relationships, alleging that the content promoted harmful social attitudes and undermined constitutional values relating to dignity and respect.

FIR Registered, Authorities Step In

The controversy has already attracted the attention of several authorities.

Maharashtra Cyber has reportedly registered an FIR against Pranit More, the medical student, and others in connection with the matter. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance and summoned the comedian and another audience participant to appear before the Commission on June 22, 2026.

Earlier, UDF had also submitted a representation before the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), urging intervention and seeking measures to discourage the commercialisation of content that allegedly undermines human dignity and public-interest initiatives such as body and organ donation.

UDF Demands Apology Within 15 Days

In its notice, UDF has demanded compliance within 15 days of receipt. The organisation has asked for the removal of all related clips, reels, and videos from platforms including YouTube and Instagram.

Additionally, it has sought a public apology directed toward women, the medical fraternity, body donors and their families, and the general public through the same social media channels where the content was originally shared.

The organisation warned that failure to comply could result in further legal action before courts, regulatory authorities, the National Medical Commission, state medical councils, and other relevant bodies.

Commenting on the issue, UDF Chairperson Dr. Lakshya Mittal stated that freedom of expression should not be used to generate revenue from content that disrespects women, deceased persons, or the medical profession. He emphasised that individuals and platforms with large audiences also carry a responsibility to uphold human dignity and public trust.
