Madhepura: A doctor at a private clinic in Supaul district was injured after being assaulted by the family members of a patient on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when Dr. B N Paswan, a medical officer at the Triveniganj sub-divisional hospital, referred a 15-year-old girl to a higher medical facility due to her critical condition.
The patient, who was suffering from severe headaches, was advised by Dr. Paswan to seek advanced treatment. However, the patient’s attendants, angered by the referral, physically assaulted the doctor. Over 12 individuals from the Latauna locality attacked Dr. Paswan, leaving him injured.
Dr. Shrawn Kumar, a consultant at the private clinic, provided immediate first aid and then referred the doctor to a higher medical center for further treatment, as the injuries were serious.
A police team led by Additional SHO Rahul Kumar was dispatched to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Pramod Paswan, the patient’s father, was among the attackers. He was reportedly holding an old grudge against Dr. Paswan. The SHO stated that the attack occurred after Dr. Paswan, who had stayed late at the clinic to attend to the patient, advised the attendants to take her to a more advanced medical center.
As of Sunday evening, no formal complaint had been filed by the victim, but the police assured that appropriate action would be taken once a complaint is lodged.
