Ex-PDO Also Held; Investigation Underway
Bengaluru: A private hospital owner and practicing doctor in Dobbaspet, Dr. Chandrashekar, was arrested for allegedly defrauding a 36-year-old man of ₹45 lakh by falsely promising a government job for his brother-in-law. The case also led to the arrest of a former Panchayat Development Officer (PDO), Yogendra, who was reportedly involved in the scam.
Fraudulent Promise of a Government Job
According to police reports, the complainant, B.S. Anil Kumar from Nelamangala, was a regular patient of Dr. Chandrashekar. The doctor assured him that he had high-level contacts and could secure a police sub-inspector’s job for Kumar’s brother-in-law. Trusting him, Kumar paid ₹45 lakh between October 2021 and November 2022.
To make the deal appear legitimate, Dr. Chandrashekar introduced Kumar to Yogendra, falsely presenting him as a senior bureaucrat who could facilitate the job. However, when the official selection list was released, Kumar realized that his brother-in-law’s name was missing.
Threats and Arrests
In an attempt to cover up the scam, Dr. Chandrashekar refunded ₹15 lakh but refused to return the remaining amount. When Kumar confronted him, the doctor allegedly assaulted him and threatened to file a false case of misconduct.
Later, Kumar learned that Yogendra had been arrested at Kempegowda International Airport on February 25 for multiple fraud cases and had previously fled to Sri Lanka after jumping bail. Realizing he had been deceived, Kumar filed a police complaint on March 1.
Based on the complaint, police arrested Dr. Chandrashekar and Yogendra. An investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals were defrauded in a similar manner.
