Handwritten Warning Letter Found Outside ICU
Dhanbad: A nephrologist operating a private healthcare facility in the city has allegedly received a death threat after a handwritten letter was found pasted outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of his clinic. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the safety and security of doctors engaged in clinical practice.
Threat Discovered at Kidney Care Clinic
The incident occurred at Kidney Care Clinic, run by Dr Kumar at Mahakaleshwar Complex near Birsa Munda Park in the Nawadih area. The threatening note was reportedly discovered late on the night of February 9, triggering panic among clinic staff and residents in the surrounding locality.
Complaint Filed, FIR Registered
According to reports, Dr Kumar lodged a written complaint at Dhanbad police station soon after the incident came to light. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered against unidentified individuals, and an investigation has been initiated.
Staff Member First Spotted the Letter
In his complaint, the doctor stated that a staff member noticed the handwritten letter pasted on the ICU door. The location of the threat—outside a critical care unit—has drawn particular attention, as ICUs demand strict security protocols and uninterrupted patient care.
Content of the Threatening Message
The note reportedly warned the doctor that he was “lucky to have survived earlier due to being in a group,” implying that he would otherwise have been shot. It further threatened that he would be killed and cautioned him not to ignore the warning. Dr Kumar has expressed suspicion that the threat may be linked to a possible extortion attempt.
Police Investigation Underway
Confirming the development, Dhanbad police station in-charge Manoj Pandey stated that the case is being treated with seriousness. Police officials are examining CCTV footage from inside and outside the clinic to identify the individual responsible for pasting the threatening letter.
Security Concerns for Healthcare Professionals
The incident has once again highlighted the growing security risks faced by doctors, especially those running private clinics. Healthcare professionals have increasingly raised concerns about threats, violence, and intimidation affecting their ability to provide safe and focused patient care.
Call for Stronger Protection Measures
With critically ill patients dependent on uninterrupted ICU services, such incidents underscore the need for enhanced security measures at healthcare facilities. The medical community has reiterated the importance of ensuring a safe working environment so that doctors can continue delivering care without fear or intimidation.
