A dispute at a private dermatology clinic in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered widespread outrage after a patient accused clinic staff of assault and misconduct. A video of the alleged incident has gone viral on social media, intensifying concerns over patient rights and medical transparency.
Patient Claims Prescription Was Illegible
According to reports, the patient visited the clinic seeking clarification on medicines prescribed to him, claiming that the doctor’s handwriting was unclear. He alleged that even pharmacists at a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana centre were unable to interpret the prescription.
The patient said he requested the clinic staff to provide the names of the medicines for clarity and safe usage.
Argument Escalates Into Alleged Assault
The situation reportedly escalated when clinic staff refused to disclose the medicine details, leading to a heated argument. The patient alleged that the dermatologist’s husband, who is also a doctor, intervened and forcibly pushed him out of the clinic.
He further claimed that additional individuals were called during the confrontation, and that he was verbally abused, threatened, and physically assaulted.
Raises Questions on Patient Rights
The incident has reignited debate over patients’ right to know their prescribed medications. The victim questioned how government initiatives promoting affordable medicines can succeed if patients are not properly informed about their prescriptions.
He also raised concerns that patients may be compelled to purchase medicines directly from private clinics due to lack of transparency.
No Official Response Yet
As of now, neither the doctor nor the clinic has issued an official statement regarding the allegations. Authorities, including local police and health department officials, are expected to take action if a formal complaint is filed.
The incident has sparked a broader discussion on ethical practices, prescription clarity, and accountability in private healthcare facilities.
