Health Minister Calls It a Major Step Toward Strengthening Primary Healthcare; CM Rekha Gupta’s Government Targets 1,100 Clinics
New Delhi: In a significant expansion of Delhi’s primary healthcare network, the Delhi government will inaugurate 34 new Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs (AAMs) across the city this week, officials said on Tuesday. With this second phase of rollout, the total number of operational AAMs in the capital will rise to 67.
At present, 33 AAMs are functional, aimed at providing holistic, affordable, and accessible primary healthcare to citizens.
Health Minister Highlights Government Commitment
Speaking to PTI, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said:
“We will inaugurate 34 more Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs this week. In the third phase of the rollout, the total number will rise to 80.”
Singh described the initiative as a course correction, aimed at bridging long-standing healthcare gaps, claiming that previous governments neglected primary care and preventive health infrastructure.
“These are not just buildings. They are centres of primary care and prevention—areas that were missing earlier,” Singh added.
District-Wise Distribution and Upgradation Plan
The new centres are being strategically distributed across districts:
- Five in Central Delhi
- Four in East Delhi
- Others spread across North East, North West, South East, and West Delhi
Many of these facilities are being created by upgrading existing mohalla clinics, polyclinics, and dispensaries.
Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs: A Key Healthcare Pillar
Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs are part of the Union government’s Ayushman Bharat initiative, integrated with Delhi’s state healthcare vision after a recent MoU was signed with the Centre. This move fulfills a major poll promise of the BJP government, which recently came to power in Delhi.
Last month, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet inaugurated the first 33 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs along with 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the capital.
The state government has announced an ambitious target of establishing over 1,100 AAMs across Delhi.
Budget Boost for Healthcare Expansion
The government has also proposed ₹320 crore for strengthening the Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) network and expanding AAM infrastructure, including plans for 400 new HWCs and AAMs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
