Patients may pay just ₹2,500 under proposed PPP model, says Health Minister
New Delhi: In a major move aimed at making diagnostic healthcare more accessible, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Thursday announced that MRI and CT scan services will soon be available at all state-run hospitals at subsidised rates.
Currently, such services are limited to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) and GB Pant Hospitals, forcing many patients to seek expensive diagnostics in private facilities.
“We are planning to float a tender soon. Our goal is to expand MRI and CT scan services across government hospitals and make healthcare affordable for all patients in need,” Singh told PTI.
PPP Model Likely, Scans May Cost ₹2,500
According to senior officials, the plan involves setting up services through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, where patients may be charged a nominal fee of ₹2,500 for scans — a fraction of the ₹6,000–₹10,000 typically charged at private diagnostic centres.
“This move will reduce the financial burden on the economically weaker sections and improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes,” an official said.
Procurement Reforms Also Underway
The announcement comes on the heels of another recent directive where the Delhi government ordered all state-run hospitals to centralize the procurement of medicines and consumables through the Central Procurement Agency (CPA).
Previously, hospitals procured supplies either directly or via the GeM portal, often resulting in inflated costs. Under the new system, hospitals must submit their requirements to the CPA, which will handle urgent needs and streamline the purchasing process.
“This is part of our broader effort to ensure affordable, transparent, and efficient healthcare delivery to Delhi’s citizens,” Singh said.
