LNJP becomes India’s first 2,000-bed government hospital to earn NQAS certification

In a significant boost to public healthcare services in the national capital, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital have received the prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification under the Government of India’s healthcare quality framework.

According to official reports, LNJP Hospital secured an impressive score of 95.89%, while Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Hospital achieved 96.72% during the national-level assessment process. With this achievement, LNJP Hospital has also become the first 2,000-bed government hospital in India to receive NQAS certification, marking a major milestone in the country’s public healthcare sector.

Assessment Covered OPD, ICU, Emergency and Diagnostic Services

The NQAS evaluation examined multiple critical healthcare parameters, including outpatient department (OPD) services, intensive care units (ICU), emergency care, maternal and child healthcare, blood bank operations, radiology, laboratory services, sanitation systems, and other support infrastructure.

Officials described the certification as an important step toward strengthening Delhi’s public healthcare system and improving patient care standards across government hospitals.

Delhi Government Focused on Healthcare Reforms

Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh said the government is focusing on delivering concrete healthcare improvements rather than making promises. He stated that reforms are being implemented to improve accountability, infrastructure, and service delivery in Delhi’s hospitals.

The minister added that special emphasis is being placed on cleanliness and hygiene under the ‘Kayakalp’ initiative across all government hospitals in the capital.

He further announced that 14 MRI machines and more than 25 ultrasound machines will soon be installed in Delhi government hospitals to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and reduce inconvenience for patients.

Push Towards Global Healthcare Standards

According to the health department, Delhi’s public hospitals are steadily progressing toward global healthcare standards through improvements in sanitation, infrastructure, patient safety, and advanced diagnostic facilities.

Officials said the latest NQAS certification reflects the government’s broader vision of building a more patient-centric, efficient, and technologically advanced healthcare system under the mission of “Healthy Delhi, Empowered Delhi.”

LNJP Hospital Implemented Major Internal Reforms

Officials at LNJP Hospital said the certification was the result of several years of systematic reforms and operational improvements.

The hospital strengthened infection control protocols, upgraded biomedical waste management systems, implemented structured sanitisation practices, and introduced mandatory staff training programs focused on infection prevention and patient safety.

In addition, the hospital expanded digital monitoring systems, grievance redressal mechanisms, drug inventory management systems, and measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply. Standardised treatment protocols and patient feedback systems were also enhanced as part of the reform process.

NQAS Certification to Bring Financial Incentives

The certification is also expected to provide financial benefits to the hospital. Under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, NQAS-certified hospitals are eligible for an additional 15% incentive over standard package rates.

Officials estimate that this could generate more than Rs 2 crore annually for LNJP Hospital, further supporting healthcare infrastructure and patient services.

Medical Director Congratulates Staff

LNJP Medical Director B L Chaudhary congratulated doctors, nurses, faculty members, healthcare workers, administrative staff, sanitation teams, security personnel, PWD staff, and support workers for their contribution toward achieving the prestigious certification.

He said the recognition reflects the collective effort of the entire hospital workforce in maintaining high standards of healthcare delivery and patient care.
