Health Department Places Senior Health Official Under “Awaiting Posting” Status Nine Months After Appointment
The Delhi Government has transferred Dr Vatsala Aggarwal from the post of Director of Health Services (DHS) with immediate effect, nearly nine months after her appointment to the key administrative position in the national capital’s health department.
According to an office order issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on May 21, 2026, Dr Aggarwal has been placed under “awaiting posting” status until further orders are issued by the government.
The order further stated that the Medical Superintendent of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital (JPCH) will temporarily handle the charge of Director, Health Services, under the existing link arrangement system.
Government Directs Immediate Handover of Charge
The Delhi Government has instructed Dr Aggarwal to immediately hand over responsibilities to the concerned officer and submit a compliance report thereafter.
The official order stated:
“Medical Superintendent, Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital (JPCH) will look after the charge of Director, DHS, as per the existing link arrangements, till further orders. Dr Vatsala Aggarwal is directed to hand over the charge immediately to the officer concerned and report accordingly.”
The transfer order was issued by Sharat Kumar, Deputy Secretary (HR-Medical), Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Dr Vatsala Aggarwal Was Appointed DHS in 2025
Dr Vatsala Aggarwal was appointed as Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Delhi, in August 2025. Prior to taking charge of the role, she served as Chief Medical Officer (SAG) at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital.
She is considered a senior bureaucrat in Delhi’s public health administration and has held several important leadership positions in government healthcare institutions over the years.
Extensive Experience in Healthcare Administration
Dr Aggarwal has more than 31 years of experience in healthcare administration and clinical practice. During her career, she has served as Director of Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital and was also given additional charge as Director of the Delhi State Cancer Institute.
She has previously worked as director and medical superintendent at multiple government hospitals and has been associated with various administrative and policy-level healthcare responsibilities in Delhi’s health sector.
Interim Administrative Arrangement Announced
Until a permanent appointment is made, the Medical Superintendent of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital will continue to oversee the responsibilities of the Director of Health Services.
The Delhi Health Department has not yet announced the name of a full-time replacement for the post.
