CBCT technology to boost diagnostic accuracy, patient comfort, and dental research in the national capital

High-Tech Upgrade in Dental Healthcare

Delhi has taken a significant step toward modernising its healthcare infrastructure with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art 3D dental imaging facility at Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences. The newly installed Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) machine is expected to revolutionise dental diagnostics and treatment planning across the city.

Lower Radiation, Higher Precision

Announcing the development, Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted that CBCT technology offers up to 10 times lower radiation exposure compared to conventional CT scans. At the same time, it delivers highly detailed 3D images, enabling more accurate diagnosis—especially beneficial for dental surgeons and specialists.

Better Surgical Planning and Patient Care

The advanced system allows clinicians to clearly visualise critical anatomical structures, including nerves, which significantly improves surgical planning and reduces risks. Faster scan times—often completed within seconds—along with the flexibility for patients to remain seated or standing during imaging, enhance both efficiency and comfort.

Boost to Medical Education and Research

Beyond patient care, the facility is set to strengthen academic training at the institute. Students and practitioners will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge diagnostic tools across fields such as oral surgery, orthodontics, and implantology, fostering improved learning outcomes and research opportunities.

Part of Delhi’s Healthcare Expansion Vision

This initiative aligns with the Delhi government’s broader efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and ensure access to advanced, patient-centric services. It also complements upcoming developments at Maulana Azad Medical College, where plans for a comprehensive redevelopment study have recently been approved.
