Dispute Inside Orthopaedic Ward Triggers Tension at Government Medical College in Datia

A shocking incident at a government medical college in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district has triggered controversy after a patient attendant allegedly attempted suicide inside the hospital premises following a dispute with junior doctors.

According to reports, the incident occurred in the orthopaedic ward of the government medical college, where a resident of Bargaya village had accompanied his uncle for treatment. During the course of treatment, an argument reportedly broke out between the attendant and some junior doctors over an unspecified issue.

Family members alleged that nearly half a dozen junior doctors assaulted the attendant after the altercation and allegedly confined him inside a duty room for almost an hour. The family claimed the incident left him mentally distressed.

Alleged Suicide Attempt Inside Locked Duty Room

Upset over the alleged assault and confinement, the patient attendant reportedly attempted suicide by hanging himself with a curtain inside the room. His relatives noticed the situation in time and immediately raised an alarm, leading to panic inside the hospital premises.

Following the incident, police personnel from the hospital outpost rushed to the spot and reportedly broke open the locked room to rescue him.

A video linked to the incident has also surfaced on social media, drawing widespread public attention and sparking debate over safety and conduct inside government hospitals.

Hospital Services Affected Amid Rising Tension

The incident reportedly created tension across the medical college campus, with several patients facing inconvenience in receiving treatment during the chaos.

The family accused the junior doctors of manhandling the attendant and demanded action against those involved.

Medical College Administration Denies Serious Allegations

However, the medical college administration presented a different version of events. Officials claimed the dispute started after the attendant allegedly tried to attack junior doctors with a stool during the argument.

According to the administration, a complaint regarding the matter was submitted to the police.

Medical College Superintendent Dr Arjun Singh downplayed the allegations and stated that the issue had been resolved mutually.

He reportedly said, “Nothing like this happened. The matter has been resolved mutually.”

Police Say Both Sides Reached Compromise

Speaking to the media, Datia Additional Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Shivhare said the dispute occurred due to a misunderstanding between the patient attendant and the doctors.

According to the police officer, both parties later reached a compromise at the police station.

The ASP further stated that the attendant’s family wanted to take the patient away from the hospital, but doctors objected to it. The family allegedly insisted on discharging the patient on their own responsibility by giving a written undertaking, after which the argument escalated into a physical confrontation.

Viral Video Adds to Public Outrage

The emergence of the viral video has intensified public scrutiny of the incident, with questions being raised over the handling of patients and attendants inside government medical institutions.

Police have not yet confirmed whether any formal FIR has been registered in connection with the alleged assault or suicide attempt.
