New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush officially launched the curtain raiser event for the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 at the National Media Centre, marking the beginning of the grand celebrations that will culminate in the national event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Union Minister of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, along with Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and other senior officials, addressed the media to outline the scale, theme, and vision for this year’s IDY, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
“IDY is now a global wellness movement rooted in Indian tradition. The 11th year is a call to scale our efforts and deepen yoga’s reach,” the Minister said.
The Visakhapatnam main event will witness over five lakh participants, led by the Prime Minister performing the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). Simultaneously, ‘Yoga Sangam’ sessions will take place at over one lakh locations nationwide, aiming to set a record for synchronized yoga demonstrations.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu was also lauded for launching the “YogaAndhra” campaign, an ambitious drive to develop a community of 10 lakh regular yoga practitioners across the state.
To broaden public engagement, ten Signature Events have been planned across 100 days, targeting diverse social segments—from Yoga Samavesh (inclusive yoga events) to Yoga Bandhan (global collaborations). A strong lead-up was built through countdown events at 100, 75, 50, and 25 days held across Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Nashik, and Puducherry.
Addressing the media, Shri Jadhav called for their support in amplifying yoga’s message:
“Yoga is not just about postures—it’s a way of life. Let’s make IDY 2025 a transformative moment for public health and well-being.”
Global Momentum Builds
According to Secretary Rajesh Kotecha, over 60 countries have already initiated pre-IDY activities. The Ministry’s outreach strategy includes digital campaigns, grassroots mobilization, and international partnerships, reinforcing India’s leadership in global wellness through the yoga movement.
The event also featured a presentation by Shri P.N. Ranjit Kumar, Officer on Special Duty (IDY Coordination), who detailed the decentralized planning, global coordination, and community-led participation behind IDY 2025.
