Teliamura (Tripura): The Teliamura Subdivisional Hospital continues to face intense public criticism as patients endure severe lapses in medical care, despite repeated assurances and infrastructure push by the state government and local MLA.

Night Duty Gaps Leave Critically Ill Patients Waiting

Recent reports highlight a concerning shortage of doctors during night shifts, with patients—including children in critical condition—reportedly left unattended for hours. Even Teliamura police personnel were forced to wait for medical examination of an accused due to the absence of duty doctors.

The situation came to a head on Saturday night, when Dr. Samir Charan Debbarma, who had completed his shift, had to return to duty to manage the crisis in the absence of the scheduled doctor.

Residents Blame Hospital Chief for Administrative Negligence

Local residents allege that the Subdivisional Health Officer (SDHO), Dr. Raja Jamatia, has failed to ensure basic operational standards at the hospital. Under his tenure, they claim the hospital’s services have deteriorated further.

Multiple complaints point to Dr. Jamatia’s frequent absence from official duties, with locals alleging that he prioritizes his private practice in Teliamura town over supervising the government facility.

Mounting Public Anger Over Declining Healthcare Standards

The growing number of grievances—ranging from doctor absenteeism to lack of basic supervision—has caused widespread public outrage. Frustrated residents have begun urging the health department and higher authorities to initiate immediate reforms.

“The government hospital has become a place where people fear going for treatment,” one local resident stated, emphasizing that citizens are no longer willing to tolerate such substandard healthcare services.
