Ultra-Modern Critical Care Facility to Strengthen Healthcare Infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of an ultra-modern Critical Care Block at the new campus of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College (RKGMC), Hamirpur, located at Jol Sapper. The project will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore and is aimed at enhancing critical healthcare services in the state.
Following the foundation stone ceremony, the Chief Minister inspected the newly constructed hospital block, academic block and other ongoing infrastructure projects at the medical college campus. He directed officials of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Public Works Department (PWD) and the Medical College administration to ensure the timely completion of all pending works while maintaining quality standards.
Hospital and Academic Blocks to Become Operational in July
During the inspection, CM Sukhu instructed officials to expedite the process of handing over the completed hospital and academic blocks to the medical college administration. He also emphasized the need to shift various college and hospital departments to the Jol Sapper campus at the earliest.
The Chief Minister announced that the functioning of key departments at the new campus is expected to commence in the first week of July. He also reviewed several issues related to the medical college and discussed concerns raised by local residents.
Rs 150 Crore Allocation for Modernisation of Medical College Laboratories
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, CM Sukhu announced that the government will provide Rs 150 crore for the modernization of laboratories in medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh.
The funding will be utilized for the installation of advanced medical equipment and state-of-the-art machines. He stated that outdated equipment currently being used at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, will be replaced with modern technology to improve diagnostic and research capabilities.
Large-Scale Recruitment Drive Planned for Healthcare Sector
The Chief Minister further said that the state government is undertaking large-scale recruitment of doctors, professors, nurses and other healthcare personnel. The move is expected to address staffing shortages in medical colleges and healthcare institutions and improve the delivery of medical services to the public.
Medical College Principal Dr. Ramesh Bharti, along with officials from CPWD and PWD, briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of various construction projects underway at the new campus.
Public Grievances Addressed During Hamirpur Visit
Earlier in the day, CM Sukhu also met members of the public at the Circuit House in Hamirpur, where he listened to their grievances and concerns and assured appropriate action on issues raised by local residents.
The event was attended by several ministers, MLAs, senior government officials and party leaders, including Ayush, Law, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, MLAs Suresh Kumar and Captain Ranjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner Gandharva Rathore, Superintendent of Police Balveer Singh and other dignitaries.
