Police Suspect Heavy Debt Led to Tragic Incident
Chennai: A family of four—a doctor, his wife, and their two sons—were found dead at their home in Anna Nagar on Friday morning, in what police suspect to be a suicide due to financial distress.
Dr. Balamurugan, a sonologist who ran multiple ultrasound centers in the city, was allegedly under huge debt. His wife Sumathy, an advocate, and their sons—NEET aspirant Jaswant Kumar and Class 11 student Lingesh Kumar—were found hanging in two separate rooms.
Driver Alerts Police After No Response
The tragedy came to light when Dr. Balamurugan’s driver arrived at their residence and found no response. Suspecting something was wrong, he alerted the police, who later discovered the bodies.
No Complaint or Suicide Note Found Yet
Authorities are investigating whether the family left behind a suicide note or faced pressure from money lenders.
“We suspect they took this extreme step due to financial difficulties. However, no formal complaint has been received so far,” said a police officer.
The incident has shocked the community, raising concerns about mental health and financial stress among professionals.
