Court Permits Doctor to Resume NHS Duties Amid Ongoing Investigation
The Bombay High Court has allowed UK-based doctor and YouTuber Dr Sangram Patil to travel back to the United Kingdom after directing the Maharashtra Government to modify the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him in connection with allegedly objectionable social media posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The order was passed by Justice Ashwin D Bhobe, enabling Dr Patil to resume his employment with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
FIR Registered Over Alleged Social Media Posts Against BJP Leaders
According to reports, the matter originated from a complaint alleging that a Facebook page circulated “disinformation and falsehoods” against the BJP and its senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the NM Joshi Marg Police Station in December 2025. Subsequently, authorities issued a Look Out Circular restricting Dr Patil’s international travel.
Dr Patil later approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of both the FIR and the LOC.
Maharashtra Government Agreed to LOC Suspension Subject to Conditions
During the hearing, the Maharashtra Government informed the Court that it would not oppose suspension of the LOC if certain investigation reports were not received within a specified time frame.
However, the State insisted that Dr Patil provide an undertaking assuring cooperation with the ongoing investigation and appear before authorities whenever required.
In compliance, Dr Patil and his parents submitted undertakings before the Court, assuring full cooperation with the probe. They also agreed that Dr Patil would appear before the investigating officer whenever summoned, provided a prior notice of 15 days is given.
The Court accepted the undertakings submitted by the petitioner and his parents.
Senior Advocates Appeared Before Court
The matter was argued by senior advocate Rajiv Shakdher on behalf of Dr Patil, while Advocate General Milind Sathe represented the Maharashtra Government.
Justice Bhobe directed the State Government to modify the LOC by Monday to facilitate Dr Patil’s return to the United Kingdom.
Main Petition Seeking FIR Quashing Pending
While disposing of the interim application related to the LOC, the Court stated that the main petition seeking quashing of the FIR will be heard after the summer vacation.
According to reports, Dr Patil is expected to resume his professional responsibilities with the NHS following the Court’s relief order.
