Dibrugarh: In a major boost to Assam’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art 200-bedded City Hospital at Jail Road, Dibrugarh. The upcoming hospital will function as an extension of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), significantly enhancing medical services in the region.
The multi-speciality facility, to be built under the World Bank-funded Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST) Project, will be a B+G+6 storied structure spread across 10 bighas of land, with a built-up area of 29,087 sq. metres and an estimated cost of ₹206 crore.
Of the 200 beds, 120 will be earmarked for the Maternity Department, with the remainder allocated to departments including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, and other specialities.
Speaking at the foundation ceremony, CM Sarma said, “This hospital will mark a milestone in our journey towards world-class healthcare. It will complement AMCH and make quality medical services more accessible for people across Dibrugarh and adjoining districts.”
The event was attended by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state ministers Jogen Mohan, Prasanta Phukan, Bimal Borah, local MLAs, and senior government officials.
Part of the broader ASSIST project, the new hospital is one of several initiatives aimed at transforming Assam’s healthcare system and establishing the state as a regional hub for medical excellence.
