Eluru – Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Y. Satya Kumar Yadav has ordered an official inquiry into two government doctors accused of negligence in the death of a patient following surgery performed in 2022.

According to a statement from the Health Department, the doctors—a civil surgeon specialist and a civil assistant surgeon (Anaesthesia)—were then posted at the Area Hospital in Jangareddygudem, Eluru district. They reportedly conducted a surgical procedure at a private hospital during official working hours, after which the patient died a few days later.

A complaint was subsequently lodged, alleging medical negligence.

Taking serious note of the case, Minister Yadav directed department officials to launch a full inquiry and initiate disciplinary proceedings if warranted.

In their written explanation, the doctors claimed they acted on humanitarian grounds, denying any negligence and seeking pardon for their decision to operate during duty hours.

The inquiry outcome is awaited and could have broader implications for government doctors engaging in private practice during official hours.
